Welcome to Mark's GoFundMe page.
We are raising money to help fund expenses for his upcoming Stem Cell Transplant (also known as a Bone Marrow Transplant) in July 2021.
Mark was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma on November 13, 2020. For several months leading up to this diagnosis we were under the impression he was in the "smoldering" stage and we were preparing to participate in a trial for a new treatment. After his very last test, a PET scan, the doctor said he was now in full Multiple Myeloma and no longer qualified for the trial. This began our journey researching and learning more about specific treatment options.
January 2021 Mark began being treated with several different low doses of chemotherapies, an antibody, and a steroid. He has done phenomenally well and we praise God for that! He has 1-2 rounds left of treatment (each being 3 weeks long) before we begin the process of the stem cell transplant at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Based on the research we have done and also the recommendation of both his oncologists, we are moving ahead with a stem cell transplant in July. June will be filled with all kinds of testing, conferences, a port/catheter placed in his chest, and stem cell harvesting (he will be his own donor).
Mark and Sheila will be living in an apartment 5 minutes from SCCA (this is required in case of any medical emergency) for the month of July and she will be his full time caregiver. The kids will be staying with family and friends during this time.
We are so thankful that insurance will pay for a lot of our medical expenses but there are still expenses that won't be covered. They include: housing near SCCA , parking, a dog sitter, supplemental living expenses while Mark cannot work, and other miscellaneous medical expenses that we don't yet know about or that insurance won't cover.
Our goal is to raise $15,000. Thank you for considering supporting this fund raiser. We are truly grateful!
