Our hearts are full!

 

Hello Friends and Family, I cannot believe the outpouring of support, sincere concern and prayers that we have received after my cancer diagnosis.

 

We have a great and aggressive Medical Care Plan through Penn Medicine in Philadelphia with therapies beginning Friday 2/25/22. We are very hopeful and optimistic that I will be blessed with more time to share with all of you!

 

Outside our Penn Medicine team we have a personal Care Team made up of professionals in the Medical, Pharmaceutical and in the Organic Chemistry world. These professionals are advocates of ours and are made up of Buehler’s Idlewild guests who rose to the occasion to make sure that I am following the best possible treatment plan, and they are keeping their ears, eyes and hearts open to find new therapies that are cutting edge that I may be eligible for. They were communicating through my nurse navigator to reach Penn Medicine staff even before my first visit!

 

Mary and I first met my oncologist, Dr. Ursina Teitelbaum, last week. She walked in and stated “First, Who are You? and how are you connected to all these people?” Mary had to ‘try’ as usual to describe the relationships afforded to us that Buehler’s Idlewild has blessed us all with! (Or maybe it’s just the pancakes?) In yet another choked up statement, I replied…

“When you spend the best times of people's lives with them and their families…. They show up in your worst!”

 

We have had countless offers of help, more than we could imagine accepting. We truly feel blessed with all of the meaningful relationships we have from our Buehler’s and church families, the Ice business and social, community and friendship circles.

 

We have also had many offers for financial support, or fundraising. This was immediately dismissed by our pride. Mary and I could not imagine accepting financial help for our situation, but as we learned more about what this could look like/how long treatment could take/cost, travel and therapies…we have prayerfully set our pride aside and are ready to accept help - under the condition that we only use this in our fight and expenses related to my treatment and recovery.

 

To do this we will be setting up a separate medical expense account to cover co-pays, out of pocket costs, travel to treatments, recovery and caregiver expenses. Anything not needed from this account, we plan to pay forward, helping others in need!

 

This is NOT a request for financial help, but rather a humble acceptance to the many who have offered! Prayers for healing, strength and quality time with my friends and family ARE requested.
