Hello! My name’s Paige, and most of you that know me also know my mother, Diana. Now, if you know my mother you know how tech savvy she isn’t, so I decided to step in on their behalf to help. My mother and Mark Nakasen have been dating for a year now and have been living together for about half of that time. Our family has grown to love and accept Mark, on the simple fact of the unconditional love he has shown my mother since day one. Such a genuinely great guy and I am so happy that he and my mother crossed paths. As I have never seen her so truly, unapologetically happy until she met Mark. When tradegy struck, I knew I had to help wherever I could. I have never created one of these before, so please bear with me.

On July 1st, Mark was in a horrific motorocycle accident where he suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as a broken neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. He was rushed to Parkview Hospital where he was then in a coma for 8 days. The doctors assigned to his case said that IF he were to ever wake up, he would no longer be the Mark that we all know and love. This news left his family and close friends heartbroken and devasted.

Mark shattered those odds when he finally woke up out of his coma. He continues to beat the odds; fighting so hard to progress in his journey to recovery each and every day. After having a major neck surgery involving two steel rods and 6 screws, it is truly a miracle that he survived at all.

He has already faced and overcome so many obstacles, but Mark’s journey is not over. Now that he has been released from the hospital after 3 months and 17 days, the second phase of his journey begins. With the severity of his injuries, the left side of his body is still not progressing as fast as the rest. He needs extensive physical therapy to hopefully one day regain full mobility. This includes in-home and out-patient programs. He currently needs around the clock supervision and care; as simple day-to-day tasks he can not do on his own. A lot of this has fallen back on my mother; taking time off of work herself to stay home and help Mark any way she possibly can.
If anyone has been through this situation before, or anything similar, they know first hand that insurance does not cover all of the expenses involved with something like this. For example, standard medications or even wheelchair transportation. Just getting Mark out of the house to his treatments is physically draining and very hard on him. Currently only having one vehicle, that he has to use a step ladder to get into, is a task all by itself. Wheelchair transportation is considered a luxury by insurance policies and is an out-of-pocket expense. This is just one of many finacial setbacks from being involved in such a serious accident.
Since the day he arrived home, the medical and hospital bills have been pouring in at an alarming rate. Mark had health insurance with limited coverage before his accident and the bike he was riding did not have full-coverage accident insurance. As of this time, his short-term disability has run out and he does not qualify for any long-term disability.
We are so very thankful for each and every one of your thoughts, prayers and for those that came to visit during his hospital stay. We know God was listening, because Mark is ALIVE and home now.
We can only ask that you continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this time to help us with the long journey ahead to a full recovery. If you are wanting to donate, anything helps and no donation is too small. Even if you are unable to donate, God heard your thoughts and prayers during his stay in the hospital and He will hear them again. We also please ask that you share this, so Mark’s remarkable story can be heard.
Thank you all so very much!
*All donations will go directly to Mark to help with medical expenses and his continued healthcare.*
