Mark’s Fight Against Multiple Myeloma
Donation protected
Our dad Mark Yilek was recently diagnosed with stage 3 multiple myeloma and kidney disease. Multiple myeloma is a rare form of cancer in the bone marrow and usually affects patients in their senior years(haha, obviously Mark is way to young to be considered a senior). Currently, there is no cure for Multiple Myeloma.
Mark will have to go to Marengo Hospital for dialysis treatment 3 times a week and he has chemo once each week. In a few weeks he will have to go to the Mayo Clinic to get a treatment plan and he will need a bone marrow transplant as well. Mark will also have to maintain a very particular diet.
Everyone in the family has been super supportive and we are all praying for remission.
Mark was raised in Belle Plaine and has lived here all of his life. He is always willing to lend a hand and has helped many people during the recent derecho that struck Iowa in 2020. At the beginning of 2021 he had surgery on a ruptured disc in his neck, after this surgery he had been feeling really under the weather and was in and out of appointments trying to figure out what was wrong. After the diagnosis, his doctors have told him he cannot continue working. Since he was self-employed and hasn’t been able to work more than a few hours a week in over 5 months his medical bills are piling up and there aren’t enough funds to cover them.
His dogs Nika and Tippy are loving the amount of time he spends at home with them now.
T-shirts are available until 7/12 https://southernsilkscreening.printavo.com/merch/maroon_for_mark/?fbclid=IwAR3Kh_Gf7PjK49F-h7KLlnO4lYinzHT6f3NuLnqoyfVI8ahuwaT_CTlEwWw
