Mark is the husband of my best friend of 15 years, Elizabeth. Together they have three adorable girls, Rebecca, college aged, Isabelle, 10, and, Ali, 6, who all adore their father and who are, it is plain to see, clearly "daddy's girls." Mark is a caring, devoted, and self-sacrificing husband, father, and friend. Furthermore, he is a veteran of the United States Military. Mark is only 42 years old and recently started an exciting new Union job. He enjoys fishing, gardening, working around the house, and spending time with his wife and children and friends. Recently, however, Mark was diagnosed with squamos cell carcinoma and had surgery to remove his tonsils, lymph nodes, and a spot in his throat. What was supposed to be a "routine surgery" has become a traumatic ordeal for the family. He has suffered numerous complications from the surgery and is in a lot of pain. As a result, he was readmitted to the hospital and will most likely be out of work for, at the very least, 4-6 weeks, but probably more.
Although the family has good health insurance from Elizabeth's teaching job, Mark will not be able to get paid sick leave since he is relatively new at his place of employment. Furthermore, Mark makes quite a bit more money than his wife and losing his salary will make his illness and recovery more stressful than it already is on this tightknit family. The $6,000 amount is just my estimate of what money the family will be missing due to his not receiving a salary and an underestimate at that. It does not include any portions of medical bills that insurance may not cover. My wish is that this account will relieve some stress from Mark and Elizabeth during a time when they should be focused on healing and family, not paying bills. Thank you very much and God Bless you if you decide to contribute to this awesome family in their time of need.
