Medical Expenses for Mark Phillips
Donation protected
My husband, Mark Phillips, is one of the strongest people I know and he has always been my rock. Even now, after learning that he will probably be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, he is more worried about me then himself. He is like that with everyone. He always tries to help people and is such an inspiration to others. Since his diagnosis, I have heard him offering comfort to those who have contacted us to check on him. It is amazing to me that someone who had his dreams ripped away could not only stay positive, but also be a support for friends and family that are having trouble accepting his new reality. I have created this page to give anyone who wants to help an easy way to help Mark.
We are trying to raise money to help get the medical equipment that he needs (lightweight wheelchair, special bed, shower chair. etc.) and to help pay some of the medical expenses. These funds will in no way cover the total costs but anything helps!
A little background on Mark Phillips for those who have not had the pleasure of meeting him. Mark is a very driven person. For the last 15 years, he was worked extremely hard towards his dream of working on a golf course as a golf professional. He went to college while working full time, moved a thousand miles away from everything he knew, and spent 2 1/2 years living in different state from his wife to achieve his goal. Finally, Mark was going to get his chance working at a golf course. He had been there for just over six months when his boss offered him the position of Assistant General Manager. This position was his dream come true. It was everything he had worked so hard for.
A week later, Mark's body started going numb. Within two weeks, 80% of his body was numb but he kept going and working. That was until the double vision started. After much hard work by our caring primary physician, we were able to get a MRI of the Mark's brain. The MRI showed lesions with an active lesion on his optic nerve. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and was hopeful to rebound. Two weeks later, he was back in the hospital and they found more lesions on his neck, one that was very large and aggressive at the base of his skull. By the time, he left the hospital he had completely loss the use of his left leg and will be wheelchair bound for life without a miracle. His left arm only has the strength of a 10 year old and not much more in the right arm. He lost the vision in his right eye and has limited vision in his left eye.
Mark has always been one of those people who touches your life. He has always helped anyone in anyway he could. Since he has been hit so hard, the outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming. We are so thankful and wanted to provide a place for anyone whose life has been touched by Mark or would like to help. These funds will not cover everything but they will help provide the equipment needed to assist him in having the best quality of life possible and help him in the same way he has helped so many others.
Thank you so much!
