Documentary about Mark Muse

Have you ever felt an overwhelming impulse to make something creative to honor just one life? Have you ever driven down a street and seen shrines of flowers and candles to honor a life lost on a busy street?  Is there one person in your life right now that inspires crazy laughter, provokes you to think deeper, love higher and embrace your own individuality and humanity in the streaming, screaming noise of life on earth?

I had a friend named Mark Muse who took his life four years ago. We both grew up in the Bay Area of Northern California in the 80’s. Mark was a musician, a misfit, poet, clown and tender giant. He was my ally in the fight against everything discouraging, suffocating, and unreal we experienced as lost kids struggling to hold on to our identities while we transitioned into the strange, surreal world of adulthood. I want to capture the spirit of Mark on film through interviews with the many lives he touched as well as footage from his life and in the process I hope to bring some healing to my own heart.

I often look around at the world I live in, the world our children are inheriting and the division, anger and lack of originality makes me feel the loss of Mark even more profoundly. He loved to laugh and make others laugh even more. He had no desire to hate or dislike anybody and fiercely embraced with an open heart the complex diversity of all humans. He communicated with animals like St. Francis and was an artist to the core. He was a writer, cartoonist, played many musical instruments and sang like an angel. Like a diamond he had so many sides but one thing he wasn’t was phony. Mark Muse and the word “fake” never co-existed. He was authentic to the end–a big bright beautiful creature with fathoms upon fathoms of love in his heart to give away like pearls.

On August 10th, 2013, he disappeared. He was missing for a week and hundreds of people who knew and loved him (even people who didn't know him) demolished the Bay Area looking for him.

He was found a week later under a bridge only a few hundred feet from the house he was last seen in, the house he grew up in. But he wasn't alive.

I want to make this to celebrate his life. I owe it to him. I owe it to myself. I owe to you.

Mark was such a strong positive force while he lived on this planet. He loved and was loved by many. Through that love, he will always live. Love never dies.

Any funds I raise will be invested in equipment and stuff to make the film. Please help me turn this vision into a reality. Thanks for reading.
