Mark(Jedd) and Cathie Kilts need our help
Donation protected
Hi everyone, many of you may not know this but my brother Mark(Jedd) has been battling leukemia for the past year and a half. He had tried chemotherapy last fall but his health failed quickly so the treatment was stopped. The next step was to find a bone marrow donor who would match perfectly for him and that was found in another sibling, Wayne.
The transplant took place in the summer at the Juravinski hospital in Hamilton along with 10 or so days of chemo before the transplant. All went well, except for a few minor set backs, but all in all the doctors were amazed at how well he did despite his age.
Part of his recovery is living in a 'halfway' house close to the hospital with Cathie beside him checking his temperature and watching closely for any signs of infection, or anything questionable where he could be rushed to the hospital within a half hour. It also gave them the closeness of being with each other and living outside of the hospital with hopes of returning home by Christmas.
Mark is now experiencing a few more delays in his recovery, that are being monitored closely, which I feel is brought on with the financial strain of the situation they are in.
October 1st of this year him and Cathie celebrated their 5th anniversary, and it has been just over a year since they became home owners. Since Mark has been out of work for quite some time, and celebrating his 65th birthday this year, all of his work health benefits stopped (that he paid extra into for years and years).
Cathie, as his caregiver, gets employment insurance but with the combination of both her income and his pension, they have fallen behind in their mortgage and bills and risk losing their home. Add to that both their vehicles are in need of repair and the funding for the halfway house (from the Cancer Society) finishes at the end of this month. They are in dire straits.
They need our help. If you know either one of them they would never ask anyone for a dime and this situation has just come to my attention this past weekend.
If you can help them out in this way, I feel they can then concentrate on him getting better and going home! Thanks in advance for your love and kindness. God bless you all.
