Market Tavern Needs Your Help!

Hi, my name is Jen and I am the owner of Market Tavern on Sykesville, Maryland's beautiful Main Street. I am humbly reaching out to the community and beyond for financial assistance.

Owning and operating a small business, especially a restaurant is extremely difficult. The pandemic has been hard on us and our weakened economy hasn't helped. If my message touches you at all, please consider donating. Anything will help. I'm nervous that hurdles such as this will eventually make our little neighborhood tavern go out of business. And, if I can take the opportunity to spread the word that small businesses need you, please hear me loud and clear.

Shortly before the pandemic, MT relocated to a larger space, and with that, we encountered many unforeseen expenses. Our main expense over the last few years has been our commercial grade outdoor elevator lift. Our construction building permits required us to get the space up to current county code. All of that would have been relatively easy, except for making our 200+ year old historic building ADA/Handicapped accessible. Of course, we were happy to do that, as we always want to provide an inclusive environment. A ramp was not feasible due to the narrow sidewalks in our historic town. The most inexpesive elevator option we could find came in at a whopping $24,000. Since the installation, there have been several issues and thousands of dollars spent on repairs. Just this week we spent over $700 to make it operable once again. We also are required to keep it in good condition as the State inspects annually and will fine us if it isnt in working order.
