God's Country Fire Restoration
Donation protected
Hi everyone! This is Cousin Carlos - I'm Erik and Doniga's cousin, and I'm creating this page as a convenient way for loved ones and friends to support the cleanup of God's Country.
If you haven't heard, God's Country suffered a near-total loss in the CZU lightning complex fires. The Markegards need to do a lot of cleanup and removal of dangerous trees that have been killed from the extreme heat from the fire. I'd love if we all could support the effort. If you're able, please make a contribution. It will most likely be many years before they can rebuild a structure. At this point they just want to make it safe.
Ways to contribute:
- Directly through this GoFundMe (works great for credit cards)
- PayPal: doniga at markegardfamily dot com
- Venmo: @Grass-Fed
- Mail a check written to "Markegard" 20080 Cabrillo Hwy S. Half Moon Bay, CA 94019
Erik bought the property in 1997 as a place where he could invest his money, time and energy into something he owned and could pass onto his kids. At the time, he was managing Broken Arrow Ranch and had spent his life putting his energy into properties he did not own. He spent countless hours building up God's Country in any spare moments he had. The family had a shop, a cabin and barn that was all destroyed. Throughout the years, many people have enjoyed the escape of this rare treasure in the middle of Big Basin State Park. From the early days of TeePee parties to the last ten years of the epic annual Quill's Party on the Mountain, everyone longed to come back again. Long-term friendships, lasting memories, and meaningful connections with nature were formed. The treehouse in the Mother Tree was a place where the Markegard Family envisioned living if anything were to happen with their rented house. It was part of their soul.
There is a lot of work to be done from clean up to rebuilding. That fire event burnt 44,000 acres in one night. The combination of the drought and extreme August heat caused conditions never before seen by a Redwood Forest. The Markegard Family is committed to rebuilding so we can all once again have a place to do our work, play music, dance and dream.

I hope you're all doing OK and staying safe during these wild times. Much love to you all.
