On November 15, 2014 at about 3pm Mark lost control of his snowmobile, crashing into a large snow embankment.
To Mark's recollection and the position of the snow machine, Mark flew off and landed on his neck/back. This landing causing complete disintegration and dislocation of C6, pinching his spinal cord between C6 & 7. Mark had to have his neck fused as well as his spine realigned. Thankfully his spinal cord was not severed, but it was significantly damaged. Prior to surgery Mark had no movement only feeling in his lower extremities, and we were told he was unlikely to walk again, paralyzed from the neck down.
After surgery, he has feeling in all of his extremities, he has some movement on left side, very little on right. For now he's improving every hour! The doctor says Mark is a miracle, and Mark is determined to beat the odds.
Mark is currently at Craig Hospital in Denver http://www.craighospital.org/programs/spinal-cord-injury-rehabilitation receving the best care possible with the hope that he can make a full recovery!
