Mark Callens' Home
Donation protected
On Sunday, December 21, Mark Callens, passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly. His death left many with heavy hearts and overcome with grief, including his partner of 18 years, Zsolt Menesi, and his many friends and neighbors on Catherine Street in Decatur.
Mark had a brilliant mind and quick wit. His gift for accents and voices was a particular talent that left nearly everyone rolling with laughter or shock. His brain was also an amazing repository of all things related to movies and comedy routines. He could entertain us for hours!
At home, Mark was a very creative and talented carpenter, with a penchant for building all sorts of unique homes for the menagerie of animals in Zsolt’s care—and those of his friends and neighbors! Those who knew Mark could always recognize his signature handiwork. Mark was happiest when he could help others—especially Zsolt—by building and creating things they couldn’t do themselves.
One of Mark's legacies is the vision of the home he wanted to build and live in with Zsolt. Because his life was tragically cut short, he will not be able to carry out his legacy in body, but we hope to make it possible for him to do it in spirit. With the help of his many friends and neighbors, he will. We will.
If you wish to make a donation in Mark’s memory, we are creating this fund to help complete the house-building projects Mark had begun with Zsolt on Catherine Street. May his dream of this unique house come to life, his final gift to the love of his life, Zsolt.
