Mark is a hard working generous man who would literally give you his last shirt if you didn't have one. He is the type of person who does things like making sure the homeless man living on the bench next to the building he works in has food and water daily. He saves bottles and cans for the homeless woman who recycles them. I could go on and on but I think you get what kind of person he is. He is so grateful to the friends, family and people in his building that helped him 15 months ago and can't wait to be able to pay it forward as he normally does on a daily basis.
He was an avid bicycle rider, a star basketball player all through childhood and college.
For many years he rode his bike to and from work.
That all changed 15 months ago when a child walked out in front of him while he was riding his bike and he did everything to avoid hitting her landing on his right knee, which had to be totally rebuilt as it was shattered and torn. He spent 3 weeks in the hospital due to a very serious staph infection and had a picc line in to administer antibiotics intravenously. A nurse came to the house to change it weekly. Needless to say he has been through a lot and still went back to work as soon as he could, greeting people with his uplifting smile and soothing voice.
He had surgery on his right knee 15 months ago and was just getting back to a somewhat normal life when he stepped off the deck with the leaf blower in his hand and slipped on wet leaves. Down he went and injured his left knee. He had surgery on Thursday Oct. 27, 2016 to repair his quadriceps tendon. He will be unable to work for 6-8 weeks or possibly more. He has put one of his cars up for sale and I am doing what I can as well. I am working full time but I don't make enough to cover all expenses.
Before he had the first surgery on his right knee, the hospital signed him up for insurance but it got caught up in red tape and they are now saying he wasn't covered. A fight he is still fighting but they took his state taxes to cover some of the over $3,000 medical bill. He has confirmed he has insurance to cover most or all of the ambulance, paramedic and medical bills this time.
The money would be used to cover any medical bills not covered and living expenses. Rent, electric and insurance are all due now.
As someone who loves him and he has helped in so many ways, I want to help him heal without having to worry about losing the house, car and if his wages will be garnished because of another one of our broken systems.
Words cannot express how thankful we would be to have the funds to cover the necessities and focus on his recovery without the added stress of losing everything. So looking forward to the day we can pay it forward again.
Thank you for your donation and I will keep you posted on his recovery.
