My friend, Larry Bierl, died of hypothermia on January 31, 2019, during one of the worst snowstorms I'd ever seen. As we approach the one-year anniversary of his passing, I humbly ask for your help in preventing the unsheltered people of Western New York from having to endure the winter weather alone.
Four months before the awful storm that took Larry's life, fire took my house. If only for a moment, I experienced homelessness. Family, friends, jobs and coworkers made that season of my life palatable. The generosity our loved ones showed my wife and me was - and still is - appreciated. I must admit we have never been comfortable accepting donations like the ones we received, while knowing that so many of our brothers and sisters sleep on the streets (hence, this project).
Over the years, I met Larry frequently for lunch or breakfast at our favorite little coffee shop in Williamsville, NY. The stories he shared, although sometimes reluctantly, provided the basis for the lyrics of my new song, “Nomad (Larry's Song).” I started work on it just days after Larry left us, and finished this month. It's almost as if he co-wrote the song. Consequently, I felt the revenue generated by the song should go to places and people of which I think Larry would approve. Naturally, I asked his family.
With their permission and encouragement, I am releasing this song, entitled "Nomad (Larry's Song)."
100% of the proceeds raised will be donated to FRIENDS OF NIGHT PEOPLE, a charity they have hand-picked. It will be located on my YouTube channel, free of charge. All I ask is that you make a donation on this page, and share this story on your social media accounts.
