Mark's Big Heart

Mark Veregge is a 17-year old high school senior who suffered a cardiac arrest on October 28, 2020 while jogging in his neighborhood.  Mark has a congenital heart disease (enlarged heart muscle and irregular heart beats (arrhythmia)).  To safeguard him from a fatal episode, Mark had an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) implanted in 2019.  That device failed to correct an irregular heartbeat, resulting in his collapse.  

Thanks to the quick thinking and action by passing neighbors Mark received CPR and paramedics were called. He was admitted unconscious and was in a medically-induced coma when the family found him hours later at the hospital.  

Mark spent seven days in the ICU and acute care departments of Children's Hospital Los Angeles where he received the best of care.

While the family is grateful for the tremendous care Mark received, it comes with astounding medical bills the family must navigate.  The primary challenge is dealing with these sudden, overwhelming expenses.

2020 has been a hard year for all of us, the family is well aware that money is tight for many.  Please know any donation will be deeply appreciated.
