
<div>My name is Jon. Two weeks ago my 17 year old brother Mark had emergency surgery and was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer, which is very rare in children. Mark will be undergoing further surgery as well as chemotherapy. In an effort to help to ease the financial burdens our family is about to face, I am sharing this story in an attempt to raise funds to help with medical and travel expenses that are not fully covered by insurance. It is very likely that one parent will need to stop working in order to care for Mark, reducing our household from 2 salaries to 1.

<div>Sometimes there is damage during cancer surgery or radiation treatment that can hinder the ability to have children in the future so there will be another procedure to retrieve and cryopreserve Mark’s reproductive cells. This procedure is unfortunately not covered by insurance at all.

<div>Mark is brave and strong and is ready to fight! We are blessed to have supportive family and friends and an outstanding medical team at Centra State Hospital and Sloan Memorial Kettering. We greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can give to help Mark and our family.
