Mark W. Somerville, 51, slipped away from us on March 4th of 2020. Mark, a native Napan, loved all of the beautiful parks in Napa, CA and Mark spent much of his life in these parks and much preferred being outside than in. To honor Mark's memory I would like to have a memorial bench installed in a park in the City of Napa and create an annual scholarship for art students. I would like to set a goal of $2,000.00 to accomplish these things. In these trying financial times I respectfully request donations to assist in accomplishing this memoriall. You may have seen Mark around, he loved to go to Fuller Park and practice contact juggling, Kung Fu and Tai Chi and he was more than happy to give someone a lesson or enter into a discussion about any of those things.  Mark and I spent a lot of time at the Oxbow Preserve, walking, picnicking, and just enjoying the view of the Napa River. Of all the parks in Napa, Mark’s favorite was Westwood Hills Park, more specifically the highest peak. Mark spent many hours hiking around the trails there throughout his life. As a teenager, he and his friends dubbed the highest peak in Westwood Hills Park “Mount Olympus” and Mark continued to call it “Mount Olympus” for the rest of his life, which got me in the habit of calling it Mount Olympus as well. Mark touched many lives in a positive way and as a way to remember Mark, I would like to have the memorial bench installed in the Westwood Hills Park (hopefully on top of “Mount Olympus” although the City will have the final decision on where the bench will be installed). Mark attended Napa Valley College and was a very talented artist and my goal is to create a scholarship for art students based on financial need and the submission of an art project. Mark was beloved by all and was sensitive, stubborn, passionate, extraordinarily gifted and talented. Thank you in advance for any assistance that you can provide, I will be forever grateful.
