Mark Roosma: Brain Tumor SURVIVOR
Donation protected
For those of you who know Mark Roosma, you know he always brings the party wherever he goes. Always quick to make jokes, he brightens up any room!
Mark and his wife, Meaghan, recently took a trip to Florida where Meaghan noticed some changes in Mark’s gate and personality. They quickly flew home to the INOVA Fairfax ED where Mark was diagnosed with hydrocephalus (excess fluid within the brain). He had brain surgery to insert a shunt to drain the excess fluid. Unfortunately, the cause of the excess fluid is a fast growing tumor in an essential part of his brain. After multiple MRIs, CTs, biopsies, and one brain surgery later, Mark has been diagnosed with a grade IV Glioblastoma, an aggressive and malignant tumor.
Mark has two wonderful boys, Tyler (23) and Matthew (19), and a deeply devoted wife, Meaghan. Together as a family, they are going to fight this diagnosis as hard as they possibly can and at the same time continue to assist in helping Mark's father who is also suffering from a grade IV Glioblastoma. While this amazing family works to fight a terrible diagnosis, we want to make sure that they do not have to worry about the medical costs.
Doctors are still working on figuring out his treatment plan, but it will most likely be a lot of chemotherapy and radiation, some surgeries, a few hospital stays and clinical trials all over the country. During this aggressive treatment, Mark will only be able to work on and off for the time being and his care will be a full time job for Meaghan. During Mark’s service in the Air Force, the family made so many friends in every corner of the world and we know all would like to offer help, along with their prayers and positive thoughts, but there is not much we can do physically for them at this time. We don’t know what their future needs may be, but if we can provide a safety net for them to be used when going to clinical trials in other states then any small donation would be amazing!
