Mark Petti’s - Surgery and Medical Expenses

Hi, my name is Diane Barrett and I am organizing this fundraiser for my nephew/godson, Mark Petti. With his and his family’s humble and reluctant approval to do this, I have established this GoFundMe page to alleviate some of the financial uncertainty surrounding Mark’s upcoming surgery in NY.

Here’s a little bit of Mark’s story:

As many of you know, Mark was diagnosed with cancer last year in August 2021. Since finding out, Mark has been fearlessly battling and kicking cancer’s butt. It has been a very tough year for this young man, but I couldn’t be more proud of him. I know the same goes for the rest of his family.

Mark completed 4 months of extensive, very aggressive rounds of chemo. So aggressive, he had to stay in the hospital 5 days to receive his first couple rounds of chemo. After Mark finished chemo and gained some strength, he had a couple back to back surgeries. The first surgery was to remove the organ where it originated and the subsequent surgeries would be to remove parts it traveled to. Mark had part of his left lung removed and his 3rd surgery was scheduled to remove part of his right lung but was cancelled because he contracted Covid-19. Recently, Mark received some worrisome news from his doctors at Dana-Farber Cancer Institution. The doctors told him they were unable to surgically remove the largest tumor located in the middle of his chest.

Ok, now for the good news:

Mark and his family found a specialist in NY that is very confident in being able to remove the majority of this tumor. Unfortunately, the doctor informed us that this major surgery probably would not be covered by Mark’s health insurance and would have to be paid in full, upfront.

The funds raised through this page will be used for the obvious financial burdens or medical cost of having the surgery out of state, including but not limited to the procedure itself, the planned hospital stay, transportation/travel costs and any post surgery medical needs/care Mark will need as he recovers.
