Mark Nelson purchased a house in Paradise several years back. He put it in thousands of hours of sweat equity to make it a home. Everything he owned disappeared on November 8, when the Camp Fire wiped out the entire town of Paradise, and surrounding areas. All of the structures. All of the jobs. All of the possessions of Mark, his mom, and the rest of the 27,000 residents.
Mark was already out of town, when the fire started, so he was unable to return home to save anything from the fire. Additionally, the town of Paradise has issued a statement that it may be some time before they can allow residents back to their homes, as all roads are unsafe. They have asked residents to find long term housing elsewhere, until further notice.
Many of you want to help with this National Tragedy. This is your opportunity. Help one real person get through this, and restart his life. If you know Mark, you will know that you will actually be helping the entire community.
For those of you that do know Mark, then you know that he lives his life ‘Paying it Forward’. His door is literally always open. He is always ready to provide a meal, or a shoulder; whatever is needed. His great joy is helping family, friends, and even strangers. He served in the Navy, and has given time, money, and labor to countless charities, and helps out within his community regularly. This guy actually has a standing appointment at the Chico blood bank to give every time he becomes eligible.
In spite of his constant giving to others, accepting help is not easy for Mark. He would never be able to reach out to friends to ask for help. That is why I am doing this for him.
In the spirit of inclusiveness, a word that truly describes Mark, I would like to ask EVERYONE to donate. This is not about ‘how much’. While every dollar will help, this is about showing Mark how many lives he has affected, and how much we all appreciate him. Please add your name to the board, with whatever you can comfortably give, and tell Mark that you care about him, and that you stand strong with him. Please share this page with everyone he knows, as well as anyone that you know that might want to help.
I grew up around the corner from Mark. We have been friends since Mrs Wright's 4th grade class. Every penny raised will go directly to Mark, to help him survive the next few months, and then to help him rebuild his home, or to buy a new home, if this one is unable to be rebuilt.
If you have read this far, God Bless You. If you are able to give, then you have my most sincere thanks.
