My brother Mark is fighting for his life. His story begins years ago when his

antibodies mutated and he developed an autoimmune disease. This

affected his heart and kidneys, ultimately giving him renal disease. Mark

ended up having a heart attack, but he pulled through. In September he

contracted COVID and has been struggling since. He started having

shortness of breath, and an irregular heartbeat, leading to several trips to the

ER. He was told he had fluid around his heart and it was working too hard.

Also, his kidneys were failing and he would need to start dialysis.

Mark’s health continued to fail. He is currently in Rochester recovering from

the triple bypass surgery he had on February 10th. While spending two

weeks in the ICU he was on continuous dialysis. After he was well enough,

he was able to move to a progressive care unit where he went back to

dialysis as needed. We are hoping he will be released from the hospital this

week to continue his recovery at home. He will continue to go in for regular

dialysis appointments. While recovering from this open heart surgery, we

know there is more ahead, as he will still need a kidney transplant when he

is strong enough to receive it.

 

Through all of this Mark continued to work until he got too sick. Mark carries health insurance for himself and his wife Sandy. They lost their health

insurance at the end of January, forcing them to pay for COBRA insurance

as his surgery was already scheduled for a couple weeks later. With

mounting medical bills and still dealing with his kidney failure, he needs

help. 

 

Mark has worked hard his whole life. At a time when he should be retiring

and enjoying his grandchildren, he is fighting for his life. On behalf of his
