My brother Mark is an amazing person. He is that kind of person who would, literally, give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Or if you just wanted it. He is selfless. In 2016 Mark found out he had colon cancer and prostate cancer and he battled it fiercely and bravely. It was a long and difficult struggle and although he still has the prostate cancer, his doctors were able to remove the other, more aggressive cancer so that Mark could go live as regular a life as he could. One of the jobs that Mark had at the time was with a tech company he had been with for a long time but they decided it was in their best financial interest to move the company to Ireland. This left Mark without his main source of income. He did find other work, but quite a bit further down the pay scale than what he had been getting from his tech company, and found that he needed three jobs in order to keep up with the bills and expenses he was accruing. Mark is the hardest working person I've ever met and he never complains or puts his worries on family and friends. Mark served with honor in the Marine Corps at the end of the Vietnam war and gave the service everything he had at the time. He has been trying to get entered into the Veteran's Administration health care system but, as most of us know, that is a convoluted and difficult system to navigate and takes months or even years sometimes to be installed in their health care system. Because of his colon cancer and the active prostate cancer he still has, Mark needs to be seen by a doctor and have a colonoscopy done to make sure everything is okay in his system. The arrival of Covid-19 has made it difficult for so many, including Mark, and things like blown and broken vehicles take precedence over other things like follow-up medical care and treatment. He desperately needs that colonoscopy to make sure he will be able to stick around for a lot longer. He would NEVER ask for help, but I'm his little sister and I have no problem asking. With Mark's current health care, he would have to pay $3,500 for his portion of the colonoscopy and although he needs this colonoscopy for his ongoing care, he just doesn't have that kind of money right now. Postponing treatment is the only option if we can't raise this money for him and it is crucial that this minor (yet expensive) treatment get done as soon as possible. I was also just informed that Mark is in need of some expensive dental care that will cost around $2,500 to fix. Mark is the kind of person that would do anything for anyone and I'm hoping we can all come together to be there for him in these desperate times. Thank you for listening and thank you so much for contributing.
