Mark Mettler - Cameron Peak Fire Relief
Donation protected
Hello everyone. As many of you may know the Colorado wildfires have left many families displaced. My brother, Mark is among them and he could use your help.
Early in the morning of October 14th, Mark received the emergency alert so many residents of Colorado have feared, “Due to immediate and imminent danger, evacuate immediately and as quickly as possible. Do not delay to gather belongings or make efforts to protect your home”. The Cameron Peak fire was on the verge of becoming the largest fire in Colorado history. He grabbed two days of clothing and left his house for what he feared could be the last time.
After five days of waiting anxiously, Mark received the sad news that his home for over 30 years had burned. After 6 more days of not being able to see for himself and hoping that “something” would still be there, he was granted permission by law enforcement to return to his home. It is difficult using the term, “home” knowing that what he returned to was merely a burnt-out foundation of what once was the place that brought him joy and peace.
Sifting through the ash and ruble, there was nothing left. But then, a most unusual sight. Arranged neatly in amongst the rubble, as if placed there by a divine spirit, was a stoneware dining set that he received upon our mother’s passing in 1987. How these dishes managed to survive we will never know, but it was the single gift he received that day as his fears became reality, everything he had was gone.

Mark has been incredibly stoic throughout this experience, more so than I ever could be, but modeling our father’s indomitable spirit does not leave him without needs. I’ve had friends and acquaintances who don’t even know Mark ask what they could do, and for that reason I’ve received his permission to share his story and to start this Go Fund Me.
Admittedly it is too soon to know if rebuilding his house on the hill is the answer, and while we all have items that we could share, he has nowhere to put them. He is here in Denver staying with his dear friend, Becky. At this time, we are hoping to alleviate some of the stress and financial costs as this chapter in his life unfolds.
Mark has dedicated his entire career to helping the most vulnerable from starting with Child Protective Services and moving on to work as a Child and Family Investigator for court ordered custody hearings. Please consider donating to help Mark recover from this devastating tragedy. Thank you in advance for your love and the caring that you share. Kevin Mettler and his entire family.
