Help Mark Mansbridge rebuild his health and his home
Donation protected
Dear friends, as you will probably have heard, Mark has been going through some very tough times lately.
Mark's career has been in Mental Health helping people through crises and drug and alcohol recovery and for the last decade he has worked on the front line in a Brighton Homeless charity. It's time to call in help for him now.
Whilst house sitting, Mark had a sudden and unexpected collapse and was rushed to an acute ward with a dangerous blood clot on both lungs. He is on a long slow recovery as the clot reduces, having to take life gently and is being cared for by friends.
He was unable to return to the beautiful yurt where he has lived off grid for the last few years on a farm outside Lewes. He had built a peaceful sanctuary there in connection with the land and local community.
Then came the second hammer blow. A friend went to help by lighting the stove to keep the damp off, but an escaped ember must have smouldered, turning into a blaze by the evening. Mark lost his home and all of his life's possessions. Everything gone- beautiful artworks, treasures from his travels, his precious books and writings, his expedition equipment, his childhood bear, all his clothes, his tools.....
For now he is having to focus on his physical recovery but longer term dreams of creating a new base.
Off grid life is priceless but uninsurable, so he is in a hard place financially. He was on a zero hours contract so gets no sick pay, but is trying to claim benefits and is ironically now on the homeless register himself.
Please help this gentle caring man who has saved lives and has worked so hard for others.
You can read more about his experience on his Facebook page HERE
Many thanks in advance Helen (on behalf of Mark)
*****Update/Transparency/Appendix*****
I am Helen Hart and am a good friend of Mark's. He will be using all the funds generously donated to replace his home, the yurt structure and all his possession and possessions. Including - but not exclusively - furniture, clothes, bedding, towels, kitchen equipment, DIY tools, household items, bike tools, electrical devises and not least replace his passport.
One reason I have set up the fundraiser on Mark's behalf is because all his forms of personal identification were lost in the flames.
*** For doner clarity - please be aware that Once GoFundMe will release the funds into my personal bank account. I will immediately and directly make a online transfer (Outside of the GoFundMe platform) into Mark's saving deposit account.
It will take him time to gradually replace everything he needs and is committed to do so in a sustainable and ecological manner.
