On Sunday May17, constant rain and storms pummeled the western suburbs. Despite efforts by Lyons and Brookfield to provide sandbags to stop the overflow of Desplaines River and surrounding creeks the area was devastated by flooding. Not sure any were hit as hard as the area of South Hollywood in Brookfield.  My brother Mark Kulaga, his girlfriend Jennifer Kaczmarek and their 3 year old daughter were evacuated by fireboat on Sunday night along with many or all of their neighbors.  Their basement is flooded to the ceiling level and the ground floor and garage has had at least 7 inches of water.   It is Tuesday and the water around their house has still not receded and they are not able to access their home or belongings. Mark is a firefighter for Cicero so he is still working but Jenn was furloughed by her company due to COVID cutbacks until at least July, so this is even more stress and financial strain on them.
