Mark & Julie Sommer Health Crisis Fundraiser

Mark Sommer is the primary caregiver to his wife, Julie, who has been on disability for over 6 years. She is still struggling with various issues, including end stage arthritis in her hip. The hope is to have surgery if some other health issues are resolved enough for her to qualify.

In July, Mark went on semi-retirement, dropping his hours at work to 20 hours a week to spend more time caring for his wife. Early in October, he had to take an unpaid leave from work due to a sudden back issue. This was compounded a couple weeks later with some severe gastrointestinal issues. Doctors are still in the process of diagnosing the problem.

At this point, it doesn't look like Mark will be able to return to work any time soon. The "extra" money from working part time was needed to meet a tight budget, and there are certain to be some medical expenses coming.
