Dear Mark, Stacy, Kennedy, & Jack:

We are coming together for you. We are here to show love and support to you in any way that we can. We are your family, friends, and fellow humans you don’t even know. This is an open letter, with no easy way to write it and infinite ways to word it. As we write this letter, Mark is on vent in the pod-like ICU at Henry Ford Hospital—medication keeps him sedated and paralyzed (movement requires oxygen) while machines keep him breathing (ventilator). This has all come unexpectedly and with more questions than answers.

Mark had been experiencing shortness of breath and fatigue this spring and was diagnosed with a lung infection (MAC). He was sent home on a cocktail of antibiotics, but he just was not getting better. Mark could not play with his kids or even ascend the stairs to his bed at night. So, they headed back to the hospital for another scan. While his May scan showed lung damage, his June scan showed devastating lung destruction. So, now he is on a vent to allow his body to rest while his doctors search for answers.

Mark is THE love of Stacy’s life (they fell in love as teenagers) and together they have two bright and beautiful children, Kennedy (a rising 2nd grader) and Jack (almost 2). Mark is a super-smart, personable, tech-savvy guy that loves his family. Mark is a lifelong learner and is the nicest (and likely tallest) guy in any room. Stacy is a Special Education teacher (in Hartland) who has poured into kiddos all across the community - I hope that together we can give back to them.
