Mark Fawthorpe's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

Mark was in a major ski accident on Saturday, March 23, 2019. While enjoying a day at Mount Washington with his son Don, he crashed into a tree and had to be airlifted to VGH in Victoria. He sustained severe injuries to his lower body; he broke his pelvis in at least four places and broke his ankle.  He has had three surgeries so far: The first was to manage his internal bleeding and put him in skeletal traction to realign his pelvis. The second was a 10 hour surgery to repair and plate his pelvis. The third was to pin and repair his broken ankle. Since his major surgery to repair his pelvis, he has been experiencing some setbacks which have been increasing his discomfort during his recovery.

Mark has always been an active, hard working man. He has a long road ahead of him - he will remain in the hospital for several weeks, and will continue to be non-weight bearing for at least two months. It is not known when he will be able to return to work as a mechanic, though we estimate that he will be off work for at least six months. Any help he can get towards paying his bills, his home care and the necessary medical equipment will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help. Mark lives to ski, whether on the mountain or on the water, and we hope to one day see him back in his glory.
