Mark DuQuette’s Road to Recovery

On June 3rd, Mark DuQuette was admitted to HealthPark Medical Center, reliving his worst nightmare and ultimately suffered from another aortic dissection with aortic aneurysm. One week later he was transferred to the Shands Heart and Vascular Hospital because HealthPark was not equipped to perform such a specialized and life threatening set of surgeries. Once transferred, the odds were not in Mark’s favor. The severity of his condition was more critical than initially expected. Once a viable care plan was created, Mark underwent four surgeries in attempt to correct multiple issues. During his most critical surgery, Mark suffered a stroke. Ultimately, the surgeons were able to save his life.

Once stable enough for transport, Mark was transferred back to HealthPark for the recovery process. While preparing to move to a rehab facility, Mark contracted Covid-19, resulting in the transfer to rehab being put on hold. On August 6th, Mark was discharged to recover at home, instead of to the rehab facility due to insurance denial.

Mark has a VERY long and difficult road to recovery and needs help getting there. Due to the stroke, mark is very unsteady on his feet, and his eye sight is very, very poor. He is currently awaiting another specialist appointment to see if they can perform another surgery to help correct his eye sight. He also must begin cardiac rehab.

Currently Mark is dependent on friends and family for all of his care. Simple tasks, such as showering and getting dressed, consume an enormous amount of Mark’s energy.

Unfortunately, Mark is unable to return to work until his condition improves and insurance is not covering his medical bills. This fundraiser is to assist Mark with the mounting medical bills, his need to receive rehab therapy, his need for a fifth surgery for his eye sight, and to help keep his home functional given his new limitations.

Many have asked how they can help and we put it off until needed. It is now needed. Whether you have time for a quick drop in visit to raise Mark's spirits, can help with getting to and from doctor's appointments, are able to drop off meals for Mark and Logan, or have a few extra dollars to spare to help through this time, or some positive thoughts and prayers... everything is greatly appreciated!!!
