Mark Conrad’s ICU Medical Bills

Hi, my name is Amanda and my family is in shambles. On Friday June 3rd at around 5:15 am, I was sitting in my parents living room when my father woke up and came to sit in his recliner. He grabbed his blanket and covered up. He dozed off shortly after sitting, but things began to take a turn for the worst.

He started snoring incredibly loud and I became alarmed by the odd noise of his snore. I said, “Dad! Dad! You’re snoring weird are you ok?” He didn’t respond, but stopped snoring. Within minutes, his behaviors and movements became concerning and repetitive along with heavy, fast breathing. I went up to him and cupped my hands on his face saying, “Dad, what’s wrong? Look at me!” He wouldn’t respond or open his eyes. I called 911.

While waiting for the ambulance, the movements got larger and worse. He repetitively hit and kicked me as I tried to keep him from falling or hurting himself. The paramedics arrived and had to restrain him in order to get vitals on him as he hit and kicked them. This went on for about 30 minutes before my dad finally responded to his name, stopped fighting the paramedics, and said, “Can’t breathe.”

My dad was rushed to the hospital, where he was immediately intubated and waiting for an ICU bed. When I arrived at the hospital, we learned he had multiple seizures, sepsis, pneumonia, and dangerously high levels of ammonia.

He is very critical. We are asking for donations to cover the medical costs of the high deductible and 20% of his hospital stay and rehabilitation he will need after. 

My father is the smartest man I know, probably a genius. He is a retired nuclear engineer of 30+ years, army veteran, and is the sole provider. My dad has 4 adult children, and 5 grandchildren that he absolutely adores. My dad also loves to brag about his younger brother’s success as a phenomenal comic artist (has done work for DC and Marvel) that travels the country for Comic-cons.
