Mark Calzo has given so much to our community, and now we have a chance to help someone in need. Friends and Family members noticed that Mark was losing weight and not seeming like himself. Yet he continued to volunteer in the community. Only weeks before his life-changing diagnosis, he was completing a volunteer project of preparing the Scituate Rotary Garden for planting. Volunteering isn't unusual for Mark. Mark has a long history of volunteering in the community and recently helped to build equipment at our local playground. So friends were shocked to receive a call from Mark's partner Lynn who arranged a call to deliver the sad news. Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer, metastasizing to his lungs.
- Mark has decided to undergo treatment to fight this disease. Now he is also facing other unfortunate obstacles. Mark had been working for a company in Massachusetts for 11 months before the diagnosis. Since he had been at the job for under one year, he will not meet the qualifications for a family medical leave. He is unable to work and therefore lost his medical insurance from his job and needs to start aggressive treatment. His family is working on getting medical insurance through other options. We are hoping that Mark will get some help through SSDI/disability. In the meantime, his bills are still coming in with no income. We are setting up this account to make things a little easier, so he doesn't have to worry as much about money for the short term. Aggressive treatment will start this week. Please help with a donation if you can. If you are not in a position to help financially, please keep this Mark and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
