Marita Thom's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
This past July, Marita was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer. This diagnosis came as a huge shock, and a life altering development for Marita, her husband Bob, and two daughters Monica and Evelyn. For the past three months, the Thom family has been working tirelessly to build Marita a strong medical team and keep her as comfortable as possible. Despite their efforts, Marita was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago and it is unknown at this time when she will be discharged.
Bob, super hero that he is, has been living at the hospital with Marita in order to keep her comfortable and feeling safe. Evelyn, while both advancing in music and high school, has been taking care of the family home and animals. Monica, who is in her third year at Concordia University in Montreal, flew into Chicago last Friday and has been alternating hospital shifts with Bob. Together they are fighting hard to remain in good spirits and trust that they will one day triumph Marita's cancer.
The onset of medical expenses combined with the lack of income from Thom Carpentry Inc (due to Bob's unwavering focus on Marita's care) is weighing on the family. Many know the Thom family as a quartet of hardworking, entrepreneurial, go-getters who are always happy to give to others in need but are conflicted when it comes to asking for support in return. However, between high past, current and future hospital bills, lack of primary income, school tuition, emergency flights, and groceries, the family is facing extreme financial stress.
We have set up this GoFundMe to help pay for Marita’s medical expenses and let her and her family focus solely on her road to recovery. We know Marita and the Thoms are loved by so many. This GoFundMe is the best way to help them during this difficult time.
**Due to Marita’s delicate state, that family is not receiving visitors. The family requests that all communication (well-wishing, check ins...etc.) on their behalf be filtered through Monica who can be reached at her email or by her cell number. She will gladly pass all messages along to Bob and Marita! The family respectfully requests to avoid contacting Bob or Marita directly, as they have much to focus on in the coming days**
Please keep sending all your love, prayers, or whatever else you do during these times. Thank you so much.
