Tashaura's Journey to Success

Donation protected

My daughter Tashaura Cummings is currently a sophomore at Marist High School in Bayonne NJ. Tashaura was diagnosed with ADHD in 2009 and since that time I have had the most difficulty finding a school that will accomodate and handle this disability successfully.  In 2015-16 Tashaura was passed along from a 9th to 10th grade in a public school with a 0.01 gpa.  Out of frustration I was determine to find a school that she could grow. In moving to Jersey City, we drove passed Marist High School. Tashaura looked at the building and saw how nice and clean it was and asked could she attend. From the  first day we walked through the doors August 2016, her life changed and I am so grateful. This Catholic School has great staff and activities and even have program called FOCUS that accomodates her disability (ADHD). Although she had to repeat her freshman year, her gpa rose from a 0.01 to an 89.1 and she now can see herself attending college. As a freshman, she was given a laptop and for the entire school year she was doing homework. With the Focus program she has extra time to complete assignments, ask questions and get assistance regarding classwork. She is excited about her future and wants to become a doctor. She was awarded the Medquest Medical program for the 2017-18 academic year.  Tashaura serves on the cheerleading squad and the volleyball team.  She says, Marist is not only a school but it's her family.
January 10, 2017, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. On January 18, 2018 I had a partial mastectomy and in the midst of my medical leave I was wrongfully termintated from my job as an Executive Director of a non-profit organization.  This caused a great hardship and I was not able to pay the tuition to continue Tashaura's education at Marist.  Tashaura need a total of $4, 457 to cover the balance of 2016-17 school year and $6,200  to cover the upcoming school year.  The total is $10, 657 Tashaura needs Marist to succeed. I can not risk putting her back into a regular public school. I have 2 more surgeries for breast cancer and I can not afford the cost. Tashaura is a bright student who deserves a great education. Marist has provided her with the tools to succeed. She often recites their slogan "Go to Marist Go to College." Payments can be made directly to Marist High School in Bayonne, NJ for Tashaura Cummings.  Please help.....Thank you in advance.
