Marissa's Road to Healing

Donation protected
Many of you know, but most do not. Last week, my little sister was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a relatively uncommon cancer of the bones and cartilage (approximately 200 cases per year, commonly affecting men and women classified as middle-aged or older adults...Marissa is 29). At the time of this posting, Marissa will have been in surgery for a bit and will be for the next 8-10 hours. She will likely remain completely sedated until Saturday morning as this is the first of two surgeries over the next 72 hours, both lasting over 12 hours and the second one beginning Friday morning. She is having the large tumor removed from her neck, back, and chest. It has severely damaged part of her cervical and thoracic spine, and therefore will require additional surgeries to correct that damage and replace the 3 affected vertebrae completely, followed by rehabilitation. Right now, we are focused on removing the tumor. Complete removal would indicate a “cured” status, and if not, she is looking at radiation to complete the curative process. As God would have designed, the number one surgeon in the country for this type of procedure, if not the world (from what we have been told by his peers), is operating on my sister. You see, even in the darkest corners of the valley, God provides.

Since February of last year, as many have, she has been out of work as she was employed by Norwegian Cruise Line due to that big, annoying “C” word...and now she is fighting the other big, scarier “C” word. But that’s just it, she is a fighter. No member of the Mancini family goes down without a fight, and while she is strong, she needs your help. More than anything, she needs your prayers for healing. However, we are not blind to the financial impact that this will have on her life. There are many unknowns i.e. length of time for rehab, costs not covered by insurance, lost time from work whenever Norwegian starts up again and her work with Instacart that has kept her afloat for the past year, etc. She does not know that we are setting up this GoFundMe for her, so let’s all surprise her by meeting, or maybe even exceeding this goal by the time she wakes up on Saturday morning! We all need a little extra help these days, but I think that I make a fair argument that Marissa could use a little bit more extra from all of us. We love you all and thank you for sending your love and prayers her
