Marissa's Voice! (Medical Equipment)

Our family and friends that know our love story and have shared in our journey, I humbly ask that you allow me to share our current situation.  Creating this fund has weighed heavy on my heart. I can hear Jess in my mind, "just pull the trigger!" So here it goes...

As we approach Jess Hansen,Sr. 3rd angelversary, there is a huge hole in my heart! A lot has happened. Mom vacation, Make a wish trip for Rissa, several hospital stays, late night holiday flood, Christmas lights hung, sprinkler repairs & Graduation!  Many  last moment "Priesthood blessings." I honestly dont know where we'd be without Our Savior's hand in our life.  So many have been his hands with generosity and kindnesses shown to us.

Since I am asking for financial help, I feel I owe you some accountability. We have our monthly needs met. We've been blessed to receive Marissa’s survivor/disability benefits. More than 1/2 her montly funds must pay towards her Medicaid. We qualify for respite, but currently have no employee. Legally, I cannot use respite to work.  With cost of Obama  care and the cost of special child care would actually go into the red.  (However, I do have some ideas to “pay it forward,” I will fill you in later.)

The last 2 months Marissa's Medically necessary items have broken! Not covered by Medicaid.  I imagine bake/garage sales, but find myself too overwhelmed after loosing our in home caregivers the last week of school.

Our little Marissa is non verbal.  She uses Surface Pro/Tobii Eye Gaze  to communicate her needs.  Her device broke beyond repair 2 months ago. We've been borrowing a friends work computer.  Medicaid will not fund hers until Sept. 2020.

Our wheelchair van's air conditioner/heater has finally called it quits few days ago,  based on the smoke rising from the vents. When I took van to dealer last month I was informed the ramp cables and rollers needed replacing. The estimated repair cost is $2000. Inc. Air conditioner. Needless to say we  been staying pretty close to home with 100° days.

Both of Marissa’s hips are dislocated and her spine is dangerously curved requiring  surgeries. Her current ICU medical bed has recently stopped working. I have spent hours looking into repair possibilities.  Now looking for refurbished bed,  but hoping to find replacement with some kind of warranty, replacement cost unknown.

Marissa spends at least 50% of her day in a hospital stretcher , so she can be in family areas. Ours has been repaired twice in the last 8 months. It is still not working and likely needs replacing.

Additional, but somewhat expected expense is petitioning court for full guardianship.  Hiring Marissa her own attorney and filing myself poss. $500 to $3000 to complete.

Most of these items I purchased when Jess passed thinking they would last for many years. Although cheaper, used refurbished medical equipment is unpredictable. Not likely to find repairmen in phonebook! (Kidding on phonebook, age joke!) I've tried to keep this brief but I am very willing to share and hear suggestions.  We've been so blessed by such great family and friends. I desperately wish not to burden others with our situation. If any additional funds, monies would be set aside for her medical needs only.  If you’re in a position to help with these expenses we’d truly be grateful. Please consider SHARING this on you Facebook or email.Thank you all for your love and support!

Sincerely,  Jess’s girls!
