Marisol's Battle with Cancer

Hello Everyone, my name is Edgar. I'm reaching out in hopes to rally support from the community while our family navigates a difficult journey.

For anyone who's been lucky enough to get to know my mom, Marisol, you know she loves to laugh, dance, and lend a helping hand whenever possible.

At the start of September, my beautiful mama was diagnosed with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) that has spread to her brain. A cancer that is treatable, not curable. The diagnosis has completely turned our world upside down. The last five weeks in the hospital have been filled with emotional conversations with doctors, a handful of setbacks, and painful tests/treatments including radiation to her brain and chemotherapy. Her oncologist mentions the treatment needs to be aggressive. She was prescribed daily chemotherapy in the form of a pill (Tagrisso) for an indefinite amount of time.

Despite the challenges, my mom has remained strong and continues to smile through her fight with this terrible disease. Along with treatments and medication administered while being in the hospital, she will need physical rehabilitation after being discharged. We do not yet have a clear idea on when she will come home from the hospital.

Cancer has not only taken a toll on my moms health, it's also taken a financial toll on our family.

Para las personas que tienen y han tenido la suerte de conocer a mi mamá Marisol Rayón Leal saben que ella es muy sociable, le gusta reír, bailar, y darle la mano a quien lo necesita siempre que sea posible.

A principios de septiembre a mi hermosa mama le diagnosticaron cáncer de pulmón metastásico de células no pequeñas (mNSCLC) que se ha extendido a su cerebro, un cáncer que es tratable, no curable. El diagnóstico nos ha cambiado la vida. Las últimas cinco semanas en el hospital han estado llenas de conversaciones emocionales con los médicos, un puñado de reveses y pruebas/tratamientos dolorosos, incluyendo radiación al cerebro y quimioterapia. Su oncólogo menciona que el tratamiento ha sido agresivo. Se le recetó quimioterapia diaria en forma de píldora (tagrisso) durante tiempo indefinido. A pesar de los desafíos de su enfermedad mi madre está tratando de seguir en la lucha. Se mantiene fuerte contra esta terrible enfermedad. Junto con los tratamientos y los medicamentos administrados en el hospital, por la complejidad de la enfermedad, ella necesitará rehabilitación física después de ser dada de alta del hospital. Todavía no tenemos una idea clara de cuándo volverá mi mamá a casa del hospital.
