My name is Terri Morales-Davis and I’ve created this fundraiser to provide financial assistance to my dear friend, Mario Williams, as he faces a new reality, living with and fighting ALS.
In early February, Mario was not feeling well. He chalked it up to just being tired from working so hard with their burgeoning landscape and handyman business, The Lawn Ranger, while also working on numerous TV and film sets both in front of and behind the camera, or maybe just a flu bug. When he didn’t begin to feel better, they sought medical attention. In hindsight, they realized he’d been having various and similar health issues for about a year. After a series of doctors’ appointments, tests, and referrals for more doctors’ appointments with specialists and more extensive testing, they have identified there is a significant neurological issue at play and he has been officially diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of motor function. It causes a weakening and wasting away of muscles, eventually affecting breathing and swallowing and leading to paralysis. Currently, there is no cure for ALS, although there are medications to manage the symptoms and improve quality of life.
Mario is being seen by the best in the country. Dr. Rivner runs the ALS clinic which he has been going to and will continue to for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and palliative care until hospice is necessary.
To help prolong his strength and stamina, Mario’s medical team has advised him to step back from doing landscaping. With much disappointment, they have notified their clients that effective immediately, they are no longer able to provide any services. As an entrepreneur, this loss of income is significant as much of their savings has already been used to pay for medical expenses stemming from all the diagnostic testing.
Mario is working with the ALS Association, receiving support and services, including identifying financial assistance, but that won’t fill all the financial needs they will have.
This is an amazing, hardworking man, who always has a smile on his face. We are asking for any help and financial assistance to help ease associated medical costs that will be incurred.
