Marion's Pancreatic Cancer Financial Aid Request

Help Marion with her battle against Pancreatic Cancer.

Hello Everyone, please take a minute to read about the journey. In early December, our world came to a crashing halt. My wife had been diagnosed with cancer.

A bit of the back story, In December of 2018 Marion and I arrived to semi-retire with a list of 83 properties. We found "HOME" upon visiting property number 3, and low and behold, 50 feet from their soon-to-be new home was a property that could easily be converted to a fan-tab-ulous true Country Inn. So with some modifications, we created and operated "FOX POINT INN", which grand opened July 3rd, 2019.  Marion has been the driving force at the Inn, wearing many hats along the way. Starting as a unique country inn welcoming guests from far and wide, she has been the Hostess to welcome all, engaging conversation about how we arrived here and creating our little hidden gem. Her passion for food and the gift from her Mother's outstanding culinary skills. She has enticed many guests' taste buds, starting as serving "custom made to order" breakfast and growing into bi-weekly reserved fine dining and private parties for various occasions; Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Weddings. The attention to detail, taking the time to engage all who grace our entrance, and the laughter and stories shared are indeed memorable.

The lead-up to the crash!

We had a hectic season at the Inn (2021), and it was mid-November Marion had been exhausted, and had experienced this pain mid-chest that if a horse/mule/donkey had kicked her straight in the center of her chest. Time to visit the doctor, after an intake of general health doctor had the possibility of a stomach ulcer, makes sense. Medication was used, and follow-up a week later. At the follow-up appointment, there were no changes, so let us investigate further; an ultrasound was scheduled for December 10th, 2021. During the ultrasound, which was taking much longer than any ultrasound she had ever had. There was a feeling of something not well.

December 13, 2021 follow-up of ultrasound findings! A mass of 4x2x4 cm (size of a walnut) was found on the Pancreas. The most frightening news to receive, coming from nowhere!  We were hosting a very special Christmas Party for a local business that evening, 8 hours after receiving this shocking news....which needed to be cancelled ASAP. But, of course, the group understood.

There must have been 3-4 days of tears, fears and just disbelief, trying to get our heads around this. Being in a state of shock, fog, overwhelmed.  So now the plethora of new doctors, new appointments, and new medications.

Pancreatic Surgeon (Halifax), Oncologist (Halifax), Port-A-Chat Surgeon (Halifax), Endoscopy (Halifax), Oncologist (Truro), Complex Abdominal Surgeon (Amherst)

Ultrasound (Amherst), CT Scan (Amherst), CT Scan (Amherst) Dye Injected, MRI (New Glasgow)

So over the next 6 weeks (January 2022 to mid-February 2022) we have seen new Doctors receiving report outcomes, and rescheduling for the next exam or Doctor visit. Being rushed in for emergency surgery April 5th, 2022 7 pm after round 3 of 6 cycles of Chemotherapy. And spending 1 week in ICU and another 6 days on a regular floor. So it has been a rough go.

Our concern at the moment is a financial one; being self-employed running the Inn, we managed through COVID shutdowns 1 and 2 without assistance from the government; we made it on our own accord.  This Cancer news blindsided us and has taken a toll on us financially. The cost of medication, travel expenses for weekly and bi-weekly doctor visits, bloodwork, Chemotherapy treatments and a few overnight stays with more to follow, Ostomy device costs, there is a need for some dental work completed once Chemotherapy is completed. It is a scary spot that we are in at the moment.

So the old saying goes something like this ..... "It takes a village to raise a child" .......

Well, this child "Marion" is now turning to its village to ask for help to overcome some of the financial burdens that came so unexpectedly. If you can help, we thank you so much, and if possible, if you could share with just one other person, that may help as well. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
