The Seán Hogan/ Thomas J.Clarke Commemoration Commitee are a non political community group who are based in South Tipperary.Every year we aim to erect plaques to honour our Republican heros here in Tipperary and further afield.Marian Tobin was a stalwart of the fight to rid our land of british Tyranny.Marian who operated a 'safehouse' for the IRA during the 'Tan War' and civil war,was also a member of the IRA.
Dan Breen also refers to
Marian Tobin providing shelter, when the area was ‘very hot,’ describing her as ‘our most trusted woman in Tipperary’ and ‘one of the best workers we had from 1917 to 1923.’ He goes on to say, ‘There are few women and not many men who gave more help than Mrs Tobin.’ He also mentions Tobin in his bestselling memoir My Fight for Irish Freedom, published in 1924, in which he thanked her for sheltering them while they were on the run. ‘I shall never forget her kindness to us that night. Her house was ever open for the boys,’ he wrote.
In a letter written in 1950 in support of her own pension application, Marian said that her home, Tincurry House, had been described by the British as the headquarters of the IRA and the birthplace of Sinn Féin. She described how she had risked her life by driving Ernie O’Malley, when there was a thousand pounds on his head, from Tincurry to Kilbehenny.
Please support us in erecting a fitting tribute to Marion Tobin a Tipperary hero.
