Marion Phillips Dansky
Known to her family as Nana, Marion will be best remembered as an artist, by her love of animals and her compassion for everyone. Marion was born and raised in England in 1937, she was married to Guy at the age 19 but was widowed soon after. Marion moved to Sweden to pursue an art scholarship as her family moved to Canada in 1960. In Sweden Marion was married again and was blessed with her first son, Simon LLewelyn Phillips. Marion and Simon followed their family to America and eventually landed in San Francisco in 1966,"the summer of love" .Yes, Marion was a bohemian, making jewelry, drinking tea with rock stars and protesting the draft. Marion had her 2nd son in the last few days of 1967. She loved to tell the story of how she helped the inexperienced doctor deliver me and how on my birth certificate under occupation it lists" jewelry maker". Our little family with my dad Lou later moved to Santa Cruz, Ca and this is where Marion blossomed, or found her power. Marion was a power house with lots of energy, compassion and drive. Marion was a single mother raising 2 boys managing to land in an awesome neighborhood, 2 houses over from the Mayor !! Marion worked two jobs, walked home with groceries and still had time to teach dozens of children her passion for art at the YMCA, she was a great mom !
Years later in 2002, Marion followed her family to Bend Oregon which we are all grateful for.
Marion was a little older and a lot more subdued, her main goal it seemed was to enjoy her family, keep working hard and bring a little compassion to everyone's life. Marion kept up with her art projects, started a fulfilling business pet sitting and made a whole new crew of friends, she was amazing.
In the last couple of months we had a great birthday dinner for her before covid shut the restaurants down in November, she didn't think she liked Thai food but it turned out excellent. For Christmas Nana drove out to have Christmas with us, which we do every year and was thoroughly enjoyed. For my birthday, Dec 28th we rented a hotel on the river and invited Nana over to celebrate, she brought the cake of course. This was the last time we all saw each other and got to enjoy each other's company, it was a fantastic departing memory and a great couple months for Nana.
Marion passed away on the last day of the worst year we can remember. Marion did not have a lot of money but she was the richest person I knew with friends, family and dog friends. This, unfortunately is why I am putting together this go fund me page for my mom. We are trying to come up with enough funds for cremation and funeral expenses and we are planning to bury Marion at Santa Cruz Memorial  Cemetery with her 1st son Simon.
Anything will help, 50.00 would be great and if your strapped just be nice to a person or dog today and think of Nana. Cheers !!
