Mario’s Amputee Ramp Fund
Donation protected
On September 4th, our father Mario Medina went into the hospital for blood clots on his left leg. He was loosing feeling and his leg was growing cold. He had an emergency bypass on his leg in order to restore blood flow to the leg. The surgery was successful for the most part. He then developed compartment syndrome. A painful and dangerous condition caused by pressure buildup from internal bleeding or swelling of tissues. That led to various surgeries over the last three months to close his wounds and heal his leg. Everything seemed to be going well until it didn’t.
Two weeks ago he developed an infection in his remaining wounds. They went in and cleaned them up but to no avail. On Wednesday Nov. 13th his orthopedic doctor noticed a foul smell coming from his leg and he didn’t like the look of things. He ordered a CT scan and a culture to be done and find out what was happening. Thursday morning we woke up to the results that we’d been fearing all along. His leg had contracted gas gangrene and would have to be amputated above the knee. We asked for a second opinion and the results were the same. If the gangrene spread it could spread and cost him his life. This form of gangrene is so deadly that antibiotics would not be able to kill it.
He went into surgery Thursday Nov. 14th. Our dad is handling this new challenge with grace. We all have our moments but we know that with Jehovah’s help we will get through this. Our family and the friends in the congregation have gathered around us and we’re taking things one day at a time.
We’re starting this GoFundMe account in order to help my parents. They had to use money from their savings in order to build a cement ramp and handrails for my dad. They live in a mobile home and a ramp was necessary in order to have dad get into the house. My mom has had to quit her job as a teacher in order to stay with my dad and help him full time. The money donated here would help them pay for the ramp and for some medical bills that have already started to come in.
We thank you in advance for helping in whatever way you can.
Sending you our warm Christian love,
