It is with heavy hearts we share the news that our beloved Mario passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at the young age of 29 years old. He was a loving son, brother, boyfriend, uncle, nephew and friend. Mario had the most giving heart. He always put others first and knew how to make anyone smile to brighten their day. There was no amount of goofiness Mario would shy away from. His contagious laugh and smile will be remembered in our hearts forever.
Mario's greatest gift to us was his cooking. Since his young toddler years, Mario would be found in the kitchen making meals for those he loved. Mario's cooking was delicious and memorable. His dishes had a special ability to make life pause for a moment and appreciate your surroundings. Each bite created a memory that encompassed the conversations shared, the people you were with, and the ambiance of the setting you were in. His gift had a beautiful way of bringing people together.
Mario turned his passion into his life's career. He became a skilled chef, creating unique sushi and seafood dishes, while working in renowned restaurants throughout California's biggest cities. He eventually branched off and started two successful catering businesses serving the San Francisco area-- Metropolitan Catering and Marisco's San Pancho.
Cooking was Mario’s form of expression which he used to guide him through life’s highs and lows. He had a deep and emotional connection to his city and its people. Though the 2020 pandemic devastatingly halted his business, his heart to serve others never wavered. While San Fran and his businesses suffered through the shutdown, Mario still found ways to help others and would often cook meals for the homeless in his community.
Though we cannot take away the insurmountable pain his loved ones are experiencing, we can join together to lift them up and honor Mario. Our greatest focus in this moment is to help alleviate his family’s financial burdens so they can focus on their healing.
In addition, we hope that you will take time to cook your favorite meal, share it with your loved ones and savor the preciousness of life. It is what Mario would have wanted. His light and memory will live on with those who knew and loved him.
Any amount shared in honor of Mario is greatly appreciated. God Bless.
