My name is Maria Torres, and I am the mother of Mario Camacho, my 27-year-old son who was tragically killed by an untrained police officer during a mental-health crisis in Brandon, Florida.
After a brain injury, Mario struggled with mental instability, but he was kind, loving, and always willing to get help. On the day of his death, we called the police hoping they could help us with him. Instead, an inexperienced officer took his life.
No family should ever lose a loved one when asking for help.
I am now fighting to create “Mario’s Law” to establish trained crisis-response units and mandatory mental-health training for all police officers in Florida.
Your donations will help fund funeral arrangements, advocacy, legal support, and outreach to make this law a reality and honor Mario’s memory.
Please donate and share Mario’s story, help us turn heartbreak into hope and ensure that every family in crisis receives care, not violence.
Thank you for your support.
