On Wednesday, January 19th, Mario Hernandez, a 55 year-old father of three, was viciously assaulted by a young co-worker because of $20. Mario spent two nights in the ICU with a brain bleed and another two nights in the hospital from the unprovoked attack.
It all began days before when Mario found a roll of cash in his work lunch room. He returned it to a co-worker, a man in his twenties. This man accused Mario of stealing $20, which Mario denied by showing his empty pockets. The attacker verbally harassed Mario daily demanding the money. Then, just outside the gate to work, the man attacked Mario as he walked to the bus stop. Mario was knocked to the ground with injuries to his face and head leading to his four nights of hospitalization and treatment for a brain bleed.
Mario’s employer of four years, a warehouse company, hasn’t provided financial support. His attacker STILL WORKS at the company and the police have yet to take action because of a backlog of cases. This means Mario cannot safely return to work. His wife, Mary, a preschool teacher for 20+ years, is the sole income while Mario finds a new job. His recovery from the attack is far from over which limits his work options. The loss of income and the growing medical bills are too much for the family to handle alone.
I created this GoFundMe because my son is a student in Miss Mary’s preschool class. She loves my son and the kids with all her heart. Seeing her in pain like this breaks my heart. Please help us take care of Miss Mary and her family in this time of need.
