Jorge at Marine Servicenter needs your help!

Jorge Izquierdo has been working on boats at Marine Servicenter for almost 13 years.  He is our “go-to” guy for bottoms and buffing.  He does not mind working on weekends when there is a rush job.

Jorge recently found out he has Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  He has been taking chemotherapy treatment since May 1st of this year, and will need to continue for a couple more months, then might need another round. As you can imagine, this has slowed down his ability to work.  He can’t be around dust, chemicals, or sick people.  He has been managing to work a few hours a week, but the chemo is getting to him.

Jorge’s white blood count is very low, and he keeps getting transfusions.  The doctors are concerned about him getting diabetes.  He is suffering from nausea, exhaustion, and low energy – of course!  His attitude has remained cheerful and steady – he comes to work when he can, and works hard.  The crew at Marine Servicenter helps him out in many ways – making sure he takes breaks and wears a mask, helping him carry heavy tools, and helping him navigate the medical language on his paperwork.

Jorge’s big worry is being able to work enough to keep his medical insurance current.  He is also getting behind in some of his bills.  His parents have moved here from Mexico temporarily to help care for him.  He says his mom makes the best mole in the world!

Jorge was born in California, moved to Mexico for a few years, then came up to Washington State.  His cousin, Maurilio, has been with Marine Servicenter for even longer than Jorge, and helped Jorge get a job with us.  They are rock stars when it comes to boat bottoms! Jorge loves boats, but not water – he can’t swim!  He also likes to cook, and explore the beautiful San Juan Islands and Anacortes.  He loves Latina music and movies. His favorite job at Marine Servicenter is buffing – because he can see the results so quickly.

Marine Servicenter is helping wherever we can – giving Jorge filing work, helping with his medical payments, and letting him work quietly on weekends when no one else is around. We know that a lot of our customers know Jorge, and would be happy to help out with a few dollars to get him through this rough patch.  His prognosis is good, according to his doctors.

We are trying to raise $10,000 immediately to help Jorge pay for his bills and get him through the next few months of treatment and recovery.  Jorge would appreciate any help that you can give him.  We will celebrate when he is healthy and ready to return to work full time!  Thank you!
