Marina fire devastation
Donation protected
Hello Everyone,
Please help us reach our goal in providing relief for Dave Napier, Bill Landon Sr. And Jr., Dave Hughes, and Tim Gahan. These men were victims of a Marina fire that happened early morning on Friday, December 9. They were residents of Richmond Yacht Basin and had been living on their boats. Dave Hughes, who was the tenant of Dave Napier's house boat, woke up to the crackles and pops of the massive fire and immediately woke Napier. Napier is also his neighbor and good friend. Within a couple minutes the fire had completely consumed the shed overtop the boats as well as part of the dock, their main exit. Hughes' boat had no fuel or a motor, and had no choice but to abandon his home and possessions, climb aboard Napier's boat, where both men rushed to escape with their lives. Hughes went above and beyond investing in and tending to his home, fixing, re carpeting, repairing whatever it needed so it was a safe and livable space.
Bill Sr. owned a boat two slips down from Napier's. His son Bill Jr. lived on the boat and thankfully did not return to his home the night prior, otherwise he may not have made it out alive, due to the location and time the fire began. Bill Jr. had spent the better part of this fall and winter season repairing the hull, and other fine tunings. All of Bill Jr's and Dave Hughes belongings remained on their homes, which now lie burned, at the bottom of the James River.
Tim Gahan was asleep on his sailboat at the time the fire occurred. Luckily, someone knew he was there upon their return to land and Tim was rescued in a police boat to safety. However Tim's life savings were recently spent on a motorized bike which was his only form of transportation to the city, and his bike was melted in the fire.
This goal would hope to cover temporary living essentials such as clothes, food, hygiene essentials as well as, replace or refurbish any sentimental items that may have been damaged or lost in the fire that are not included and separate from insurance policies. Any funds donated at this time will primarily go to the immediate needs of Bill Jr., and Dave Hughes for clothes, shoes and living essentials. Once these essentials are replaced so they can live more comfortably, the continued funds will be divvied up between Bill Sr. Bill Jr. Dave Hughes, and Tim Gahan for deposits for new living arrangements and the replacement of personal and sentimental belongings that were claimed by the fire.
We're elated that everyone is alive and safe. We hope you'll contribute to this relief fund, to help these kind friends of ours in need. Thank you all for your support.
