The Marin Equality in Education Project was created to provide low-income school-age children who are in need of educational support with free tutoring services. We need your immediate donations to keep this project going.
The project was founded in July 2020 by Mary Bender who is the 6th grade teacher at St. Hilary School, and also the owner of Homework Helpers Marin, and Diane Provo of Provo and Associates. In collaborating to provide academic support for families struggling with distance learning, Mary and Diane realized that there were two groups: those with the resources to provide their children with expensive tutoring services and those who cannot. With ongoing distance learning, there is an ever- growing disparity between these socioeconomic groups. Now more than ever providing children with equal access to education is crucial.
The purpose of The Marin Equality in Education Project is simple: volunteer high school students will be matched with K-8 students in need and provide weekly consistent tutoring and academic support – all done virtually through zoom meetings. The goal is that these students who would otherwise be unable to access high quality support will now be able to receive the personalized education necessary to thrive in their classes.
The website is now live at https://www.marinequalityineducationproject.org, meaning families can apply to be matched with a tutor and high school students can apply to become a tutor. In order to pair a student with a tutor, applications are carefully reviewed by three college students – all Redwood alumni – who look at the needs of the student and the skills of the tutor in order to make the pairing.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise funds in order to support the program through June 2021, as the operating costs are minimal and most of the project operations to date have been from individual volunteer services.
Please consider donating any amount you are willing and able to contribute so Marin Equality in Education Project can provide this very important service to Marin County families and children in need. Education is vital to the development and success of each child - children are truly our future.
