Marie's Stem Cell Transplant

Donation protected
In April 2014, less than three years into enjoying retirement, Marie Hall heard the words no one wanted to hear: you have cancer.

But this wasn't just any cancer. She was diagnosed with Primary Myelofibrosis, a rare blood cancer that attacks the bone marrow. Over time, PMF will cause her bone marrow to fail. Life expectancy for PMF varies widely, but the generally accepted range is about 3-5 years from onset of symptoms. There are currently no drugs (other than trials) that have had any effect on PMF, so at most, care and treatment is limited to management rather than cure.

The only hope for a cure or improvement is a bone marrow stem cell transplant.

Since her diagnosis, Marie has been still living life to the fullest. She splits her time between her home in Black River, NY and her winter home in "paradise" (Haines City, FL). She loves to spend time with her husband Dave (pictured above on a cruise for their 35th anniversary) and her daughters Erin and Sara.  She always manages to find adventures with her friends in NY and in FL.

However, Marie's team of doctors at both Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL and Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester, NY decided in the fall of 2016 that her PMF had progressed to the point where a stem cell transplant was her only hope of extending her quality of life.  Without the bone marrow stem cell transplant, her disease will continue to worsen.

Currently, a stem cell transplant is tentatively scheduled for May 31, 2017 at Wilmot Cancer Center. There are many hoops she has to pass through before the transplant, including very intensive chemotherapy. Afterward, she will be in the hospital for at least two months and will have to be closely monitored (weekly to monthly) for over a year from the date of transplant.

Your generous donation will help bless her family with meals, gas for the many MANY round trips (150 miles each way) Marie and her husband Dave will have to take between their home and the cancer center, kennel fees for their beloved dog Gunner, and any other expenses related to the process that are not covered by insurance  The family does not yet know whether or not the transplant will be covered by insurance (pray that it will be), but without insurance, the cost could be anywhere from $350,000 to $800,000 just for the transplant alone.

Without this stem cell transplant, the world would lose an amazing wife, mother, and friend.

Her goal is to be able to celebrate her 50th anniversary with Dave in 2031 because she is Irish stubborn!! She refuses to let this awful disease beat her.

Thank you for being a blessing to Marie and her family. God bless you.
