Mariel's Top Surgery Fund!

On January 11th, I'm turning 30! As I prepare to enter this new decade of life, I'm committed to stepping into it as the happiest, healthiest, most authentic version of myself. For me, that means feeling more confident and comfortable in my body by following through on my dream of getting top surgery (a double mastectomy).

Growing into my queerness has been beautiful, challenging, fun, and inspiring. I feel so lucky to have a life filled with friends, family, and a community that not only accepts my nonbinary identity, but celebrates it. I would not be the person I am today without all of you, and I'm honored to invite you in to take this next step on my journey with me.

I have been cleared by my doctor to undergo the procedure in early 2023, and I plan to work with Dr. Charles Garramone in Miami, Florida. Dr. Garramone is a pioneering expert in his field, and is one of the leading top surgeons in the world. I am confident that I will get the excellent results that I'm looking for under his care.

While gender-affirming care is essential, it is out of reach for so many of us. Many forms of insurance do not cover costs associated with gender-related care. The total cost of my procedure is projected to be around $14,000, with just over $2,000 of it covered by insurance. Raising about half of the $12,000 in out-of-pocket costs associated with top surgery would put this dream within reach for me.

It's humbling to have to lean on community for help, but it's an honor to have so many wonderful people in my life to be able to call on. If you are able, I'm asking for donations of $5, $10, or anything you can afford to help me raise money for my surgery so that I can lock in a date with my surgeon's office as soon as possible!
