Marie "Valore" Crowley's Plea for a Funeral

Donation protected
Most of you know me as Valore or Marie, but some of you know me as Grammy or Mom. Ikey always called me Valore. As I am sure you know by now, I passed away Friday, April 23rd of this year. It is OK to cry if it helps ease your pain, but please know my suffering has ceased; no longer am I confined to a bed and unable to walk. Happier still is to have my mind back intact. As much as I hated losing my mobility, I hated losing my ability to communicate effectively far worse, which brings us to why I’m here asking for your help.

Ikey has been waiting for me to join him at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sabattus; our plans were to rest there together. Neither of us wanted to be cremated. Ikey had a full Catholic funeral and was not even a baptized Catholic. I never believed there to be a possibility of our plans not coming to fruition, after all, I had life insurance (or so I thought).

A little more than halfway through 2019, I lost my eldest son Larry to his battle with cancer. I have no words to describe the pain of losing him, and only a parent who has dealt with the loss of a child can understand. It was here while coping with this tragedy, that I made the easy mistake of forgetting to change the beneficiaries on my life insurance. I had named Ikey as the main beneficiary, and our eldest son secondary. Nobody would be here to collect the little life insurance that would have paid my funeral expenses. The State of Maine will end up attaching it and taking it to recoup some money for having provided me with MaineCare medical insurance.

The beginning of 2020 found me in the hospital struggling with dementia and hallucinations. Apparently, I was struggling with strokes as well, but the doctors said I was already getting all the help I could for the strokes, and they just couldn’t stop them. My mind was never the same after that hospital trip.

Shortly after I came home from the nursing home where I had gone for some rehabilitation, my son Christopher noticed the mistake with the life insurance while attempting to make copies for a Social Security review. He tried to make an online account for me to be able to change the beneficiaries, but they were going to need to talk to me, and because of the dementia, I just simply could not wrap my head around what he needed me to do. I never made a Power of Attorney, and I was not of sound mind to choose one now.

In any event, my companion, family, friends, and grandchildren would love nothing more than being able to see me buried and pay their respects. My prayer is that you can help my family achieve their goal of $6113. That is $5,913 to cover the funeral expenses, and $200 to cover the fees imposed by running this fundraising campaign. Please keep in mind that sharing is caring too. If for some reason you are unable to contribute for any reason, please at least give the family a share of this post. The more folks who view it, the more likely someone able to help get me buried will see it. God Bless you all and thank you for hearing my prayer.
